IF YOU’RE a Sister Act fan then consider your prayers answered because the movie franchise is getting the reboot treatment.
Whoopi Goldberg confirmed the news on Good Morning Britain, telling the UK morning show that Disney was making another Sister Act film.
But there’s just one catch — Goldberg won’t be reprising her role as Sister Mary Clarence.
“So we’ve been all over Disney begging and they’ve decided that they are going to go in a different direction with Sister Act,” Goldberg said. “So it won’t be Sister Act 3 it will be a brand new rendition of Sister Act.”
Goldberg said she would probably only have a cameo role in the movie, adding: “I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”
Sister Act was a critical and box office success, making more than $319 million worldwide making it one of the highest grossing movies of 1992 and sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit followed in 1993.
Back in 2015 The Hollywood Reporter claimed that a third Sister Act movie was in the works with the writers of Legally Blonde working on a screenplay, however, those plans never came to fruition.
Meanwhile, Goldberg and the cast of Sister Act reunited last year on US talk show The View to perform I Will Follow him to celebrate the film’s 25th anniversary.
